Motorcycles have brought some incredible people into my life. Jaime Camil is one of them. Our connection runs from rides with friends in Los Angeles to conversations in Mexico City, where the Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride gave us a reason to come together beyond the motorcycles. The bikes brought us there. Men’s health gave the ride its purpose.
What are we riding for?
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride brings riders together to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health, supporting its charity partner, Movember. The money helps fund prostate cancer research and men’s mental health programs, including suicide prevention. That is the heart of this story. Behind the suits, the bikes and the photographs are men who need support—and conversations we need to make easier to have.
DGR named Jaime a global ambassador in 2023. He has used that platform to encourage men to speak openly, ask for help and show up for one another.
How much has Jaime raised?
His DGR profile tells a remarkable story: US$337,658 raised across five events since 2022. In 2024, he finished as DGR’s top global fundraiser, riding in Mexico City. Those numbers show what can happen when someone brings his friends, his community and his public platform behind a cause.
| Record | Result |
|---|---|
| 2024 | DGR’s top global fundraiser, listed in Mexico City |
| 2026 | US$40,353.84 raised; fifth globally |
| Lifetime profile | US$337,658 across five events |
How did our LA connection reach Mexico City?
In episode 139 of Ride Boundless, Jaime and I talked about taking that connection to Mexico: traveling with our LA riding friends, joining DGR and visiting Italika. It was a chance to bring people together around something that mattered to all of us.
After the May 19, 2024 ride, we recorded episode 141 at Jaime’s home with DGR founder Mark Hawwa and Remy Favier. Our recap celebrated more than 2,500 riders and Mexico’s fundraising effort. Jaime’s first-place finish on DGR’s global fundraising list that year was a tremendous result, and the wider community helped make it possible.
A visit with Ricardo Salinas
While we were in Mexico City getting ready for DGR, Jaime took us to visit his friend Ricardo Salinas. We met at Ricardo’s place, where home and work seemed to come together. Through that friendship, I had the opportunity to sit down with him for Ride Boundless.
We talked about DGR, his support for the cause and Italika. Ricardo was a major supporter of that Mexico fundraising effort, and the conversation brought another side of the trip into focus: the people willing to put their support behind what we were riding for. The interview was published in July 2024, with Jaime joining us toward the end.
There was a television connection, too. That May, TV Azteca announced Jaime as the host of La Academia 2024, its singing competition. Friendship, motorcycles, men’s health and Jaime’s work all crossed paths on that trip. It gave us plenty to talk about.
Meeting the man who started the ride
Having Mark Hawwa, the founder of DGR, join our conversation at Jaime’s home made the experience even more meaningful. Here was the person who started the ride in Sydney in 2012, sitting with us in Mexico City after a community had come together around that same idea. Alongside Remy Favier, we talked through what the ride had brought together and why the cause mattered.
Why does this ride stay with me?
Because it brings together the things I value about riding: friendship, community and a reason to get out there. Jaime can draw attention to the cause, but every donor, organizer, volunteer and rider has a part in it. A familiar face can bring people to the conversation. What we do together is what gives that conversation weight.
That is the story I want to tell through Ride Boundless and Throttle Link. The motorcycle is the connection. The people—and what we can do for one another—are the reason to keep riding.
